- Exhibitions--Catalogs
- Though I just noticed it, in 2003 or so LC made a change in how subject headings are constructed for exhibition catalogs.
- In the past, it was common to end headings with one of the following:
- x Exhibitions x Catalogs,
- x Exhibitions v Catalogs, or
- v Exhibitions v Catalogs.
- LC has abandoned this combination. In future, only v Exhibitions should be used. Here’s an excerpt from what they say in their Subject Cataloging Manual. Subject Headings, policy H 1593, followed by some of their examples:
- Use the free-floating subdivision –Exhibitions under any type of heading, including names of persons, classes of persons, ethnic groups, corporate bodies, literary works, place names, disciplines, types of objects, etc., for works on exhibitions about these topics and for individual exhibition catalogs containing descriptions of the exhibition and/or lists of the objects exhibited. … Do not subdivide –Exhibitions further by –Catalogs.
