Welcome to the Cataloging Unit!

the Cataloging Unit website was developed to meet two primary objectives: (1) To develop a comprehensive procedure manual for University Libraries' Cataloging unit; and (2) To produce the manual in an online environment providing a single central location for all departmental information that can be both easily navigated, and dynamically updated. As a secondary objective, we also needed a central location for bookmark links to those key online cataloging tools used by our catalogers on a regular basis.

This site is an evolving web tool for the catalogers at the University of Akron's University Libraries. Portions are still "under construction" so please bear with us as we continue our efforts to meet our objectives. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Please email your comments to the Cataloging Webmaster: Karen Plummer

The Big Move!
the Cataloging Unit has moved! Now located on the second floor of Bierce Library, in Room 261, the big move took place February 8-10, 2011. Thanks to the amazing folks at Graebel Moving, our move went quickly, efficiently, and, more importantly, with as little inconvenience as possible. Our offices were all moved on Tuesday. Free-standing shelving units unassembled, moved, and reassembled, while wall-mounted shelves were moved into their new places on Wednesday. And our free-standing shelves were filled back up on Thursday.

Now on Friday, Graebel is gone (we'll miss them!) and most of us are doing some cleanup around our new offices, unpacking, putting things on shelves, weeding through files, and doing a little decorating to get ourselves back to normal. The University's carpenter shop is helping out by attaching things to walls: shelving units, bulletin boards, etc. By Monday, we should be back to work as normal.
