Local Cataloging Practice
Introduction
While authoritative sources such as the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, revised, 2nd edition, and Library of Congress Rule Interpretations (LCRI) provide catalogers with the basic rules and guidelines for cataloging all formats of materials, local practice develops to meet local needs. These local needs may involve limitations of cataloging software, limited cataloging resources, choices made to enhance the catalog record beyond the base record, type of library audience (public, academic, special, or law), and specific needs of the local community of users.
The following menu includes links to established local practice at the University of Akron's University Libraries.

Special Projects
The Bierce Library Cataloging Department engages in a variety of projects besides the cataloging of new material purchased for the collection. Outside agreements have been made with other organizations such as the Akron Art Museum and Omnova Solutions. Other projects such as reclassification are important to the overall integrity of the collection, so that patrons will be able to find material.
