Physical Processing for Cataloged Psych. Archives Material

General Procedures
IMPORTANT: NO property stamps, bar codes, labels, etc. should be affixed on or in the item, and NO OCLC no. or callno. should be written in the item.
- Cataloging
- Assign a barcode to item as normal, but do not affix to cover.
- Do not write callno. or OCLC no. in item.
- Staple barcode to any paperwork accompanying the item or a slip of scrap paper.
- Place item on Archival Processing shelf in Cataloging.
- Special Processing--Bierce
- Print label set, compare labels to pieces in hand and bibliographic record on screen. If something doesn’t match, consult cataloger.
- Staple label strip to same slip as barcode.
- Give to Special Collections Cataloger to be recorded on the Psychology Archives Cataloging tracking spreadsheet.
- Psychology Archives
- Upon arrival in Polsky’s, Psychology Archives staff will attach the labels to an acid free book band.
- Special Cases
- Items Transferred to Archival Services from Stacks
- Leave original label and barcode affixed to the book. Do not assign a new barcode.
- Print out a new set of labels and staple label strip to a scrap slip of paper. Upon arrival in Polsky’s, Archival Services or Psychology Archives personnel will attach labels to the acid free backing of their choice to match the rest of the collection.
- If the call number was changed from what is on the label affixed to the book:
- Print out a 2nd set of labels.
- Cover up old spine label with new spine label; discard the inside label.
- In pencil, gently cross out the old callno. on written inside book and on inside label (if applicable).
- Items Transferred to Archival Services from Stacks
